CLASS DESCRIPTIONS & WHAT TO WEAR

It is most important that you feel comfortable and confident in your dancewear! Any garments that are stretchy and allow freedom of movement in which you can also see your line will work. Please don't let self-consciousness be an issue. Be sure to visit The Shop at BDC online for all your dancewear needs!

Starting from scratch, students learn the basics of classical Ballet technique to prepare them to enter any Basic Ballet class offered at Broadway Dance Center. To enhance your experience, additional information is shared weekly to educate students about other aspects of the art form inside and outside the studio. Whether you are interested in learning ballet for fun, fitness, or to enhance your other artistic practices, this is the class for you!
For ABW Online, please make sure you have a support to use as a barre (counter, chair, etc.).

Tops: Traditionally, leotards are worn in class. Other options; a fitted T-shirt or tank top. You may need support under your leotard as well, try to keep it the same color & as discreet as possible.

Bottoms:  For those comfortable with wearing a classic ballet outfit, tights are worn under a leotard for ballet class. You can also wear shorts or a ballet skirt over the leotard for more coverage, or leggings/shorts/fitted sweatpants.

Shoes: Ballet slippers, in the color that best matches your skin tone or tights - though you can wear socks or jazz shoes to get started (if you cannot get your slippers right away!)

*Note: If your hair is long enough to get in your eyes, it is important to secure it back out of your face for your safety in class!

This workshop will introduce the beginning student to basic Theater and Jazz techniques by starting with a thorough warm-up that focuses on teaching vocabulary, building muscle strength, and energizing the body and mind for class. From there, we will work on some Theater Jazz movement and eventually assimilate some of the vocabulary into a routine where we will simultaneously work on executing the steps and telling a story. It’s everything theater dancer should be, but at a pace a singer/actor/mover can keep up with! We will get back to the basics and set a strong foundation to build upon

Jazz pants, shorts, sweat pants, etc. Nothing too baggy. What you might wear to the gym. Comfortable clothes to move in and jazz shoes or dance sneakers ideal- if not, sneakers are fine. Character shoes/heels can also be worn for theater.

Students will learn all the basic steps in tap, as well as their definitions. The class continues with incorporating these steps in warm-up and across the floor exercises and final combinations. The goal of this workshop is to give you the foundation you need to take tap classes at BDC, fuel your enjoyment and appreciation of tap dance, and to have a great time!

Jazz pants, shorts, sweat pants, leggings, etc. Nothing too baggy. What you might wear to the gym. Comfortable clothes to move in. Tap shoes or shoes with a hard sole that make a loud sound.

This workshop begins with a warm-up that includes body isolations and various movement exercises, as well as a thorough breakdown of the material presented to you. During the workshop, choreography will be given with movements ranging from smooth grooves to energetic hits. Each class will build upon the previous one. By the end of the session you’ll have a few new combos under your belt. You'll also get a feel for the "BDC class experience" by incorporating what you've learned in the warm-up into a fun and challenging routine.

Shorts, sweat pants, leggings etc. Nothing too baggy. What you might wear to the gym. Comfortable clothes to move in. Dance sneakers or regular sneakers are ideal.

If you've always wanted to learn to dance in heels, this is the workshop for you! Students will work on feeling comfortable walking in heels, basic technique, and exuding confidence while performing choreography.

This workshop will start with a warm-up concentrating on developing strength and flexibility, basic Jazz/Contemporary movements, and basic technique such as plies, tendús, and releves. Each week you will work on movements across the floor that will progress into a center combination. At the end of the workshop you will have a basic knowledge of Contemporary/Jazz dance terms as well as how to execute them correctly.

Shorts, sweat pants, leggings etc. Nothing too baggy. What you might wear to the gym. Comfortable clothes to move in. Jazz shoes, ballet shoes, socks or bare feet are appropriate.
