Sheryl Murakami has been dancing and performing since the age of 5. Sheryl Murakami has been dancing and performing since the age of 5. She is a Los Angeles native who has trained extensively in classical ballet while also studying tap, jazz and later branching out into hip-hop and salsa. At age 16 she started dancing professionally in numerous TV, Film, Commercials, and dancing with a long list of recording artists including Lady Gaga.
While living in NYC for 15 years, Sheryl continued performing, while also building her teaching career. She formed her own dance company and honed her choreography skills. In time, Sheryl became one of NYC’s most respected choreographers and as the industry took notice of her iconic style. Her talents were recognized by Frank Gatson and soon thereafter caught the eye of Beyonce.
Sheryl has choreographed three music videos for Beyonce, including: Ego, for which she is credited as co-directing with Beyonce; Who Run the World, for which she recieved an MTV VMA Award in 2011 for Best Choreography alongisde Frank Gatson and Jeffrey Page; and Dance for You. Her other choreography credits include: Tours for Pitbull, Nicky Jam, Zion Y Lennox, Thalia, and music videos for Kat Graham, Pixie Lott, 2NE1, Jolin Tsai, and Elva Hsao, to name a few.
Sheryl has been a guest choreographer for Lifetime’s Dance TV Show Bring It Freeform TV series Alone Together, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and a guest judge and choreographer on Russia’s Popular Dance Show Tntancy.
Additional choreography credits include, NJ Nets, NY Knicks, LA Clippers, national commercials for Maybelline, and industrials for AXE, Maxim, Puma, and Heineken.
Sheryl has created her own unique style of dance. It is culmination of many years of hard work and knowing what really works. Her strong athletic technique fuses jazz-funk and pop. Sheryl’s signature style and lines capture the strength of feminine sexuality and power. Her expertise in all forms of dance have enabled her to guest teach and choreograph nationally and internationally. She can currently be found teaching at the world renowned Broadway Dance Center in New York City, and The Edge in LA. Sheryl currently resides in LA.
